Abstract

This article intends to question the journalistic treatment of schizophrenia by the national french daily press on the year 2018. Mental health has become a real public and societal issue. However, stigmatization is still present and actions by politicians, associations and even information professionals are multiplying in order to make the media aware of the correct use of the term psychiatry. This desire for destigmatization is not very effective as evidenced by the analysis of content carried out on two major national dailies and Agence France-Presse. The persistence of metaphorical uses marked by the association of the lexical field of schizophrenia with the treatment of topical issues, particularly those related to policy, business and climate change. Differentiated results of the association of this pathology to the genre of "miscellaneous facts" between the newspapers studied and AFP are observed.
